How long is the program?
Our Dual Degree options are 5 levels but the length is determined by program.
- Central New Mexico Community College (20 months)
- San Juan College (24-28 months)
- Santa Fe Community College (24-28 months)
- University of New Mexico – Gallup (24-28 months)
- University of New Mexico – Taos (24 months)
- University of New Mexico – Valencia (24-28 months)
When and how can I apply?
You will apply to the College of Nursing after completing all nursing pre-requisites. You will begin nursing courses, in-person, at our partner school upon acceptance into the College of Nursing.

What are the minimum requirements to apply?
- Successful completion of all nursing prerequisites
- Minimum 2.75 GPA in nursing prerequisites
- Passing entrance exam
- All partner school admission requirements
What entrance exam is required to apply?
Our Dual Degree options have different entrance exams, depending on the specific program. Please contact the partner school you are applying to to inquire further.

What are the BSN pre-requisites needed before starting nursing level 1?

- It is recommended that students start Nursing Level 1 with 9hrs of UNM General Education requirements completed.

How can I see what classes I’ve already taken and how they will apply towards my BSN pre-requisites?

If you are not a current UNM student you can request a Transcript Audit through your advisor.
What if I have a previous Bachelor’s Degree? Do I have to complete UNM General Education courses?
No, with a previous Bachelor's degree, you are not required to take any UNM General Education courses, as those are a first-degree requirement only.
Where will I take my classes?
- Students in the dual degree program will take the majority of their nursing courses, in-person, at the partner school they’ve been accepted to.
- Students will take a some nursing courses at UNM throughout the program, these UNM courses will be online or clinical. See next question for specific courses.
What classes will I take and registered for through UNM?
- Level 1- NMNC 3120 Evidence-Based Practice
- Level 3- Upper Division Nursing elective
- Level 4- Upper Division Nursing elective and NMNC 4445 Clinical Intensive II
- Level 5- NMNC 4510 Concept Synthesis, NMNC 4520 Professional Nursing Concepts II, NMNC 4535 Clinical Intensive III, and NMNC 4545 BSN Capstone.
- To meet the UNM Residency requirement of 30 credit hours at UNM, many students need an additional 3 credit elective.
What is the tuition for dual degree options?
Students pay the UNM College of Nursing tuition rate for the BSN course hours registered through UNM. Students pay the tuition rate for the partner school for the hours registered through the partner school.
Can I apply to multiple BSN program options?
Yes, we recommend students apply to multiple BSN program options to give yourself the best option to get into a program.
